"Nearly 88% of trafficking survivors reported having some kind of contact with the healthcare system while they were trafficked, according to a 2014 study in the Annals of Health Law."
This is staggering. It means that many trafficking victims will "resurface" in regular society, and you can be there when they do.
Yet when a victim seeks medical attention, her trafficker is normally with her, controlling what she says or even speaking for her. She cannot reach out for help.
