- OUR PROGRAMS -
The Flashlight Project brings the unconditional love of Christ to women inside Dallas' erotic massage parlors. This includes the owners of the parlors, the managers, and the younger women.
In our visits, we have found that the women we visit seem tired and lonely. Many are surprised to see us on their doorstep. So far, most appear to be Korean and do not speak much English. We have learned a lot over the past 1.5 years, and we have created programs based on the needs and opportunities in front of us.
To boost women's self-esteem and bring them out of isolation into a loving, supportive community, our work includes four crucial parts:
1. General Outreach: Each month, outreach volunteers visit erotic massage parlors. We ring doorbells, give free gifts, pray for women when asked, and build relationships. Currently, we visit around 19 parlors monthly. We plan to expand this number since Dallas has between 60-70 parlors.
One of the outreach volunteers speaks basic Korean, so we are able to introduce ourselves and explain our program.
This is the prayer card we use on outreach:
2. Outreach to the Parlors' Owners: Our guide is Jesus Christ, who judged no one when He was on earth, and so neither do we. We care just as much about the owners as we do about the other women. Our monthly outreach gift includes a special packet for the parlor's owner. The packet includes a card, a letter in English and Korean, and an affirmation in English and Korean. Our future goals are to meet the owner and to have friendly, relaxed conversation with him or her.
3. Prayer/Encouragement Text Line: When women are lonely, worried, depressed, etc., they are welcome to text us their prayer needs in English or in Korean, and if requested, we can respond in either language. Women may also request encouraging text messages in Korean or English from us on other days of the week. We have South Korean volunteers who help with the more complicated translations.
4. Affirmations: We include in our monthly gifts an affirmation in Korean and in English. We counter the negative messages that women in the parlors hear. Some managers appear to be in their sixties, and it is possible that we are the first positive voice they have heard in a very long time. We are especially passionate about this program and about telling women who they really are: intelligent, talented, respected, and loved.
